When one door closes, another door opens.
Last year, Johnny Rockets fans on the island were saddened to hear that the chain would be closing its only two locations. However, they may now be delighted to hear what will be replacing the chain at one of the locations.
In May of 2022, amid a labour shortage, those hoping for a Johnny Rockets burger or milkshake were out of luck after the chain closed both its downtown and Hillside locations in Victoria.
The two eateries, found along Fort Street at the Bay Centre and on Hillside Avenue within Hillside Shopping Mall, opened simultaneously in 2017.
Although the location at the Bay Centre remains vacant, fans of the chain may be pleased to know that the vacant Johnny Rockets eatery at Hillside Centre will soon re-open as a Fatburger restaurant.
Fatburger currently has a downtown Victoria location on Douglas Street, and a West Shore location at the Belmont Market on Jacklin Road.
In an email statement, Hillside Centre tells Victoria Buzz while firm opening date has been set, they anticipate the diner will be open by the summer.
