A newborn baby was found deceased and abandoned in a parking lot on the corner of Kings Road and Blanshard Street which is occupied by Wendy’s and Subway.

At around 10 p.m. on April 26th VicPD and paramedics responded to a report of a deceased baby in the restaurant parking lot.

Police say the baby was thought to be a newborn and may have been born nearby the parking lot in which it was found.

A full response from investigators to determine what had happened and where the mother was took place overnight and into the morning of April 27th.

Victoria residents turned to Reddit to try and determine what was happening in the parking lot.

“I have no idea what’s going on, but looks serious,” a Redditor posted in the Victoria subreddit.

“About eight police cars in the lot though, so maybe it’s serious. Police were looking through garbage cans in area as well.”

Police say investigators are concerned for the welfare of the mother who may need medical care and support after birthing and losing her child.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) has now taken over the investigation from VicPD given the circumstances of the investigation.

Police say no more details will be released about the incident at this time.

Anyone with information about this incident or anyone who knows the whereabouts of the baby’s mother should call VIIMCU at (250) 380-6211.
