The City of Victoria has been chipping away at renovating Topaz Park for the last five years and now the city’s athletic folks will finally be able to reap the benefits!

Topaz is the third largest park space in Victoria and is utilized as the main athletics park. Just last year the city opened the new all-wheels skatepark which was just one part of the park’s renovation that saw over $10 million invested into it.

Now, as of May 5th, the brand new turf sports field is getting its grand opening and will be used by soccer players, field hockey players, football players, rugby players and more.

The City of Victoria has put $2.4 million of federal and provincial funds into this full-size soccer turf field, a mid-sized youth field and a baseball diamond with bleachers seating.

“The new turf field is an amenity that will be enjoyed and used by people of all ages from every neighbourhood,”  said Victoria’s Mayor Marianne Alto.

“This investment in recreation and sport contributes enormously to Victoria’s vibrancy and vitality. This is an exciting day for the whole city.”

“We invite everyone to come to Topaz Park, explore and have fun,” the Mayor exclaimed.

The work on Topaz Park is far from done in its current state though. Its next phase of improvements will see Topaz Park get pickleball courts, more ball diamond upgrades and an improved leash-optional dog area.

Design work is already underway for this next chapter in the park’s life and construction is expected to begin soon.
