Advance voting for Langford-Juan de Fuca by-election opens this Friday

Share

Since former MLA and premier John Horgan’s retirement from politics in March, the Langford-Juan de Fuca electoral district has needed to be filled.

On Friday, June 16th, advance polls will open for those who will be away at the time of the by-election or those who want to get their vote in a bit early. The general by-election will take place on Saturday, June 24th.

The candidates in the running for Horgan’s old seat are Ravi Parmar for the BC NDPs, Camille Currie for the BC Green Party, Mike Harris for the BC Conservative Party and Elena Lawson for the BC United Party, formerly known as the BC Liberals.

Parmer has the benefit of the seat belonging to a member of the BC NDP party prior to the by-election, but anything can still happen.

The BC NDP candidate is a well known public figure in the community and has sat upon the Sooke School District Board as Chair for a number of years.

The Green’s Currie is the Founder and President of Canada Pacific Health Care Matters Society and she runs a small business as a trainer in Langford.

Harris, who is the Conservative’s candidate, is a former carpenter and small business owner who has found success as a realtor in the area.

The BC United Party’s Lawson was a co-founder of the Children’s Autism Federation of BC and has been a fierce advocate for childhood autism with the former and current administration in BC.

Residents of the Langford-Juan de Fuca electoral district can participate in the vote if they are a Canadian citizen, at least 18-years-old as of June 24th and a resident of British Columbia since December 23rd, 2022.
