Campbell River RCMP are actively investigating an incident of vandalism and racist graffiti at the construction site of the new Tlowitsis First Nations Village.

Police were alerted to the situation on Thursday, June 15th and are seeking assistance from the public to identify the individuals responsible for the destructive act.

Situated in the 200 block of Henry Road, the construction site fell victim to various acts of vandalism, which included the destruction of windows and glass on equipment such as light stands, generators, and excavators.

While much of the graffiti was difficult to decipher, an offensive racial slur was prominently displayed.

Constable Maury Tyre, the media relations officer for Campbell River RCMP, stated, “the damages incurred at the construction site are significant and estimated to require approximately $25,000 for repairs.”

He further added, “at this stage of the investigation, it is too early to determine whether the vandals acted randomly or if this was a targeted incident.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident are urged to contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
