A 32-year-old Comox Valley man has been arrested for firing of a shotgun in a Courtenay park back in May.

On May 25th, Comox Valley RCMP responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area of Cliffe, Kilpatrick and Fitzgerald avenues.

Responding officers determined the shots had likely come from Bill Moore Park, which is located along Kilpatrick Avenue.

“During a systematic search of the park, no suspect(s) were located; however, officers found and seized various shotgun parts and spent shells,” said RCMP in a media release.

“This incident is a stark reminder of the danger posed by reckless and dangerous use of firearms,” said Cst. Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP.

Police say based on the evidence found at the scene, it appears that the shots were deliberately aimed at the trees—which caused concern due to nearby trails.

“We are grateful that nobody was hurt but the potential consequences of this behaviour cannot be overstated,” said Terragni.

A Comox Valley man was arrested with charges recommended against him.
