An online fundraiser has been launched to help support the family of 33-year-old man Steven Middleton, who was recently found dead along Beach Drive in Oak Bay.

Last week, on Wednesday, July 26th, two people who were walking along Beach Drive near Monterey Avenue when they discovered the body.

They reported it to authorities who closed off the street and have been investigating Middleton’s death as suspicious since then.

A family friend has started a fundraiser to help support his family during this time of grief.

“We’re coming together to help the Middleton family during this incredibly tough time,” wrote Josilyn Cook, who organized the fundraiser.

“Steven Middleton’s sudden loss has deeply affected his loved ones, and we want to provide some relief and support to help them get through this difficult period.”

Middleton is survived by his son named Blake and a soon-to-be 6-year-old daughter, Sophia, who he loved deeply, as well as other family members facing financial hardship through their grieving process. All the money raised by the GoFundMe will go towards those most impacted by Middleton’s loss.

“Every donation counts, no matter the size,” Cook said. “Your contributions will ease the financial burden for the family, giving them some space to heal together without added stress.”

At this point, The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) has taken over the lead in the investigation and are asking anyone with a dashcam to check their footage if they were traveling on Beach Drive between Cadboro Bay Village and Gonzales Bay.

They are looking specifically for footage taken between 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25th and 7 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26th.

Also, anyone with other information about Middleton’s activities during the week prior to his death are asked to contact the VIIMCU information line at 1 (250) 380-6211.

Middleton’s tragic and untimely death has brought sorrow to his family, friends and his young daughter.
