Victoria-born NHL player, Tyson Barrie and his longtime girlfriend, Emma Rose, tied the knot this weekend and brought a string of NHL stars into Victoria to celebrate with them!
The now Nashville Predators defenceman has played with the Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Edmonton Oilers — so, it’s no surprise that Barrie’s picked up some of the biggest stars as his closest pals!
On Friday, July 7th, popular downtown watering hole The Local closed to the public and hosted a pre-wedding gathering to celebrate the happy couple with friends and some added entertainment.

Jason Verners, a Victoria-based magician, was among the lucky ones to make it into The Local and confirm some of the celebrities in attendance.
“It was packed…organized, beautiful chaos,” Verners said.
“People were describing it as the Met Gala for hockey fans.”
Some of the players included Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid and his fiancée, Evander Kane, Zac Hyman, Tyler Myers, Darnell Nurse, Mike Smith, and Mitch Marner.

And although plenty of speculation had been circulating regarding whether or not Justin Bieber and Ryan Reynolds were in town, at this point, it is still nothing more than a sweet rumour.

“I can’t confirm or deny that they were there, I didn’t see them but I didn’t see a lot of people…so who knows,” said Verners.
Verners had great things to say about the evening as a whole — love was in the air and everyone was thrilled to be celebrating Tyson and Emma.
“The coolest thing was Tyson and Emma dancing on the bar to some cult classic songs…just the two of them showing love.”
The location of the wedding venue hasn’t been confirmed, but there’s some speculation floating around about it being at a private residence.
