Section of Beacon Avenue in Sidney to temporarily close for roundabout project

Share

Head’s up motorist travelling through Sidney!

A section of Beacon Avenue on the airport side will be closed for the construction of a roundabout.

The new roundabout currently under construction at Galaran Road and Stirling Way will be closed as the project moves towards the next step.

Phase one of the project has begun — which involves the realignment and paving of Stirling Way.

Phase two will include the construction of the east side of the roundabout on portions of Beacon Avenue West and Galaran Road.

In order for phase two to commence, sections of Beacon Avenue West will have to close to traffic for four to six weeks — although the company behind the project anticipates that Beacon Avenue West will be reopened to traffic on evenings and weekends.

“We anticipate that this road closure will take place mid to late August…however, with construction schedules things could get shifted around,” said Jenn Clary, Director of Engineering.

Emergency vehicles and residents living in the immediately impacted properties will still be able to use Beacon Avenue West and won’t be restricted.

This will ensure the safety of the workers with lessened traffic and will keep the closure length as short as possible.

A detour through the existing and future Stirling Way will be maintained for the duration of the road closure for all other drivers.

Any shifts, changes, or updates will be communicated with impacted residents and businesses.
