Two men arrested for arson of dental office in downtown Nanaimo: RCMP

Share

Nanaimo RCMP have arrested two men in connection with a fire set to a downtown business.

The fire was reported to police at around 8 p.m. on August 19th and involved a dental office located at 410 Wentworth Street.

The business that was destroyed was run by Dr. Bruce Senini. He operated out of a refinished and commercialized bungalow across from the Otter mural-emblazoned Nanaimo Auto-body and Glass.

Nanaimo RCMP say the blaze was discovered because a patrol officer noticed the flames from the fire and notified fire crews who quickly responded.

The fire was successfully put out, but due to the wooden structure of the building, extensive damage was done to the interior and exterior of the dental office.

At the time of the fire, no one was occupying the building.

Based on information police obtained at the time of the fire, two men were located not far away from the scene of the blaze and arrested for arson, as they were allegedly the cause of the dental office being destroyed.

The two men have been remanded and remain in custody until their court date on August 22nd.

Police say that for the time being, the dental office will remain secured until a fire investigator can properly investigate and determine what definitively caused the fire.

Anyone who has information on this incident and has not spoken with police should call Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.
