Another crash on Vancouver Island has claimed a life.

On Saturday, September 2nd, a collision involving a motorcycle and a car occurred near the outskirts of Qualicum Beach, resulting in the death of a 61-year-old Port Alberni woman.

The incident took place around 4:45 p.m., prompting an immediate response from the Oceanside RCMP, Qualicum Beach Fire Rescue, and BC Ambulance Service.

The accident unfolded at the controlled intersection of Memorial Avenue (Highway 4) and the Inland Island Highway (Highway 19), triggering an extensive investigation.

Regrettably, the passenger of the motorcycle, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, lost her life at the scene of the accident.

Both the motorcycle and car drivers, whose identities were not released, survived the incident and were subsequently transported to hospital.

Their injuries were classified as non-life-threatening.

“The preliminary investigation has determined the car was attempting a left hand turn from westbound Memorial Avenue on to the Inland Island Highway southbound on ramp and the motorcycle was traveling eastbound through the intersection on Memorial Avenue,” said says Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP.

Alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor and the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.
