Police in Port Alberni are on the hunt for a suspect following a suspected targeted shooting incident that resulted in one man being hospitalized on Friday.

The incident unfolded in an alley situated in the 3000-block of 4th Avenue, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.

The victim was subsequently transported to the hospital with injuries that, fortunately, were not life-threatening, according to a statement from the Port Alberni RCMP.

While the investigation is in its early stages, BC RCMP spokesperson Alex Bérubé says after speaking with witnesses “initial information gathered is leading investigators to believe this was a targeted attack.”

Forensic identification officers and canine units have been brought in to assist with the investigation.

As of now, no arrests have been made.

Police are currently on the lookout for an older model black Dodge pickup truck, which was spotted leaving the vicinity at the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information on the incident, or who may have video surveillance or dashcam video of the area, is asked to call the Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424.
