5 community bonfires in and around Victoria that will light up your Halloween night

Halloween is just around the corner, and what better way to embrace the spooky season than by joining a bonfire?

Whether you’re a fan of ghost stories, toasting marshmallows, or simply enjoying the warm glow on a crisp October evening, here are seven fantastic bonfire events happening in and around Greater Victoria this Halloween:

Oak Bay Firefighters Annual Halloween Bonfire (UPDATED)

The Oak Bay Fire Department will not be hosting a bonfire this Halloween. Alternatively, they will be joining the Trick or Treat on the Avenue hosted by the Oak Bay Business Improvement Association on Halloween from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Kids will have chance to meet Sparky and the firefighters, while learning about trucks and having an opportunity to hit a target with a real fire hose.

Shops from Foul Bay Road to Monterey Avenue will be giving out candy during the Village-wide Trick or Treat. Participating businesses have a pumpkin poster in the window

Some activities include:

  • Live music throughout the afternoon
  • Halloween-themed balloon twisting
  • Hula hoopers, stilt walkers, jugglers, aerialists
  • Photo Booth
  • Popcorn courtesy of the Kiwanis Club
  • Meet Sparky and the firefighters, learn about the fire trucks and hit a target with a real fire hose courtesy of Oak Bay Fire Department
  • Wander down the Spooky Woodland Walk from the Avenue to the Fern Café
  • $6 children’s dinner, free indoor games, and activities for young children at the Fern Café – Monterey Recreation Centre.
  • Pet Parade and Costume Contest at 4:30 PM with prizes at Engel & Volkers.
  • Kids costume contest at 5:30 at the Hampshire and Oak Bay Avenue intersection. Win a free Family Drop-In admission to Oak Bay Recreation.
  • Where: Various areas in Oak Bay
  • When: Tuesday October 31st, 6 p.m. is when the bonfire is lit

Central Saanich Bonfire and Fireworks

Join in the Halloween fun at the community bonfire and fireworks event at Centennial Park, commencing at 7:30 pm (with fireworks scheduled for approximately 8 pm).

  • Where: Centennial Park, 7500 block of Wallace Drive
  • When: Tuesday October 31st, 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Colwood Fire Hall Bonfire 

Don’t miss the annual Halloween Bonfire hosted by the Colwood Volunteer Firefighters Association!

Bring all the little ghosts and goblins to enjoy hot dogs, juice boxes, treats and fun in the firelight on Halloween night.

  • Where: Colwood Fire Hall, 3215 Metchosin Road
  • When: Tuesday October 31st, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

North Saanich Firehall Halloween Bonfire

Prepare for the spookiest bonfire in town! On Tuesday, October 31st, everyone is invited to the North Saanich Firehall Halloween Bonfire for complimentary hot dogs, hot cocoa, and delicious treats. The festivities kick off at 6 p.m., with a thrilling fireworks display scheduled for 7:15 p.m. This wickedly awesome event is not to be missed.

  • Where: North Saanich Fire Hall, 986 Wain Road
  • When: Tuesday October 31st, Festivities start at 6 p.m.

Metchosin Fire Hall Halloween Bonfire

A community Halloween event will take place at the Metchosin Fire Hall including a bonfire, hotdogs, and costume contest. The event will not include fireworks.

  • Where: Metchosin Fire Hall, 4440 Happy Valley Road
  • When: Tuesday October 31st, doors open at 6:30 p.m.
