56-year-old motorcyclist dies after colliding with another vehicle in Sooke

A two-vehicle crash in Sooke over the weekend, resulted in the death of a 56-year-old motorcyclist.

Sooke RCMP are currently investigating the incident, which occurred on Sunday, October 1st, at approximately 12:40 p.m., on West Coast Road in Jordan River.

The collision involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck and took place in the 11000 block of West Coast Road.

Police say preliminary evidence suggests that the driver of the pickup truck was traveling westbound on West Coast Road and was in the process of making a left turn into a campground.

Tragically, the motorcyclist, who was following the pickup truck, attempted to pass into the oncoming lane. This maneuver resulted in a collision between the motorcycle and the pickup truck.

Despite the prompt response of emergency officials, the 56-year-old motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Sooke RCMP has stated that there is no indication of criminality in this incident. However, the BC Coroners Service has initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.

Such investigations are standard procedure in cases involving fatalities.
