A regular ferry ride took a magical turn for Vancouver Islander Frederick Pelletier from Courtenay!

On August 2nd, Pelletier had just arrived at the Departure Bay terminal on Vancouver Island and was grabbing a coffee while his wife waited in the car.

He decided to check his Lotto 6/49 ticket and Pelletier discovered he’d won $1 million dollars and couldn’t believe this life-changing win was reality!

His wife didn’t believe him at first.

“She called me a liar,” recalled Pelletier, who brought his wife back to Scuttlebutt News so she could see for herself.

According to Pelletier, he’s not sure what they’re going to do with their wins yet, but he knows he will be using it to help his son.

“[This win] will change my son’s life. We have thought about taking trips, now the things we discussed are more in reach.”

Upon being asked what it’s like to win $1 million dollars, Pelletier expressed that it has not sunk in just yet!

Pelletier purchased the winning ticket at the Shell station on Island Highway and Headquarters Road in Courtenay.

As described in a release, so far in 2023, BC lottery players have redeemed more than $89 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49!

In case you’re unfamiliar, Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 7:30 p.m. (PST) and players can purchase tickets at any lottery retailer or at PlayNow.com
