‘Eliminating financial barriers’: BC community organizations can apply for anti-racism funding

Share

In order to take on racial inequity and foster inter-cultural understanding in BC, the Province is inviting community organizations to apply for grants to fund their anti-racism programing.

These grants are meant to help reduce systemic racism and incidents of hate through community initiatives.

Up to $5,000 will be distributed for the successful grant writers and their organizations.

“One of our tools for fighting racism is eliminating financial barriers for those doing the work in their communities,” said Niki Sharma, Attorney General.

“These grants allow government and front-line organizations to work better together to provide supports for building racial equity throughout the province.”

The Province says that preference will be given to applications submitted by racialized and marginalized groups.

Projects must be ready to start by March 1st, of next year and be completed by March 31st, 2025.

“BC is made strong by our diversity but there’s still more work to combat racism, hate and cultural intolerance,” said Mable Elmore, Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives.

“I encourage organizations doing this important work to apply for a grant, so we can support you and your community in making B.C. a safer and more inclusive place for all people.”

Last year’s round of annual anti-racism initiative grants went to 60 organizations throughout BC, including some in Victoria and on Vancouver Island.

The Province says these grants are part of their concerted efforts to dismantle systemic racism and make BC safer for all.

Grant applications are due by 5 p.m. on November 20th, of this year.
