Harbour authority to continue repairs on Broughton Pier after supply chain delays

Share

Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA) has announced the continuation of repairs to Broughton Pier after supply chain delays halted construction last winter.

It began late October 2022, and the scope of the project includes replacing some original wood piles, improving pier lighting for pedestrians and business operators, mechanical sewage system repairs, as well as repairs to the Red Fish Blue Fish container.

Their new estimated time of completion is set for March 2024 and the total estimated cost is $1 million.

“Broughton Pier supports the visitor economy, and the PacifiCan Tourism Relief Fund recognizes that. PacifiCan is contributing $500,000 towards repair costs,”  said Robert Lewis-Manning, CEO of GVHA.

“The pier is an important hub for Inner Harbour activity. It is home to Red Fish Blue Fish, Victoria Fire boats, Harbour Ferries (pick-up/drop off location), Victoria Kayak Tours and Rentals, and marina shower and laundry facilities.”

GVHA warns of minor periodic land and water access disruptions for public safety during construction, but the project team plans on making every effort to minimize these disruptions.

Advance notice for any closures, changes, or disruptions will be posted for anyone who may be affected. Seasonal commercial clients won’t be impacted.

GVHA recognizes the importance of completing the repairs and knows the improvements will ensure the continued enjoyment by locals, tourists and commercial vendors.
