RCMP chopper helps nab alleged robbery suspects following chase on Vancouver Island

Four individuals from the Lower Mainland have found themselves facing charges an erratic driving complaint near Black Creek led police to a robbery investigation.

The incident, sparked by a complaint of erratic driving on Monday, eventually led RCMP to launch a robbery investigation.

With their court appearance slated for November 20th, the suspects involved in this case range in age from 18 to 23.

Comox Valley RCMP initially received a complaint regarding erratic driving around 10:40 a.m. on Monday.

The complaint described one vehicle pursuing another on Highway 19 near Black Creek.

What began as a seemingly ordinary traffic issue quickly escalated when a vigilant caller informed the police that this could, in fact, be linked to an armed robbery.

Prompted by this information, a significant police response was set into motion.

Officers from both the Comox Valley and Campbell River RCMP, as well as the BC Highway Patrol, converged on the scene.

Their collective efforts ultimately led to the discovery of a suspect vehicle in the vicinity of Cranberry Lane.

According to witnesses, the suspects fled into the nearby forest in attempt to evade police.

Subsequently, all four suspects were successfully located and apprehended.

In the end, the incident involved multiple detachments, including the Comox Valley and Campbell River RCMP, the BC Highway Patrol, the Island District Emergency Response Team, and the RCMP’s police-dog and air services, said Comox Valley RCMP Const. Monika Terragni.

The suspects are 23-year old James Daniel, 18-year old Leonardo Gega, 20-year old Sijuola Obatusa and 18-year old Milisav Bogetic. They were all charged with robbery using a firearm.

Police say the investigation has revealed that this was a targeted incident.
