A road rage incident that unfolded on a Nanaimo highway Saturday was partially captured on camera.

The incident, which occurred on the Old Island Highway at Aulds Road, shows a man exiting his vehicle to pound on the window of another vehicle, which reportedly was occupied by a woman in her 70s.

According to an anonymous witness who spoke to Victoria Buzz, the incident began when the accused driver was tailgating and appeared to be engaging in aggressive driving behavior—the victim driver was “not driving fast enough”, according to the witness.

The witness said the situation escalated as he allegedly came dangerously close to colliding with the car in front of him before the confrontation captured on camera occurred.

“The accused in the video was tailgating and then almost ramming the car ahead before this happened. The victim, a woman in her 70s, was consoled by fellow motorists after the incident,” said the anonymous witness, shedding light on the events leading up to the confrontation.

The video footage, which circulated on social media, has sparked additional comments from those who witnesses the incident.

“I was right beside and followed this guy for a while. Definitely needs to be stopped. He was out of control. Thanks to those that stopped and help call the cops and helped calm the poor lady down. Hopefully the RCMP can track him down and deal with him so that no one gets hurt,” said one person.

Victoria Buzz has reached out to the Nanaimo RCMP to inquire whether a file has been opened regarding this incident and whether any further altercations occurred with this driver.

More to come.
