Suspect at large after fatal stabbing in Port Alberni

A suspect remains at large following a fatal stabbing in a Port Alberni Friday night.

The stabbing unfolded around 5:30 p.m. on October 20th, at an apartment building in the 5100 block of Argyle Street.

The incident was reported to the Port Alberni RCMP in the late afternoon, setting off a chain of events that would lead to the tragic loss of a young man’s life.

First responders discovered a male victim, later identified by friends on social media as Johnny Sorensen, who was also known by the nickname “Tree”, suffering from severe injuries.

Despite the efforts of bystanders and emergency first responders, the victim’s injuries proved fatal.

Several witnesses were immediately interviewed at the scene, providing invaluable information to aid in the ongoing investigation.

A male suspect has been identified, and RCMP say they are actively working to locate and apprehend the individual.

RCMP have emphasized that this appears to be an isolated incident, and all parties involved are believed to have known each other.

As a result, they say there is no immediate concern for the safety of the general public.

The Port Alberni Major Crime Unit has taken charge of the investigation.

Police said that no further information will be released at this time.
