Batten down the hatches!
Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for parts of Vancouver Island as another potent pacific frontal system is set to sweep onto the BC Coast today.
Areas along the Strait of Georgia are projected to experience the brunt of these forceful winds with the forecast warning of southeasterly winds reaching speeds of 70 to 90 km/h, with potential damage in their wake.
Wind advisories are in effect for Courtenay to Campbell River, Duncan to Nanaimo, Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay, north Vancouver Island, and the southern Gulf Islands.
Across these regions, the forecast indicates that the winds will commence on Friday evening, persisting until Saturday morning, with the exception of the northern Vancouver Island where the wind is projected to commence on Friday morning.
By Saturday morning, the intense winds will gradually subside, giving way to a shift towards moderate southwesterly winds in the aftermath of the front.
No alerts are currently in place for the Greater Victoria area.
If you’re intending to travel via BC Ferries this weekend, it would be prudent to check the prevailing conditions before embarking on your journey.
