It’s official—the Canadian Football League (CFL) confirms that they’re heading to Victoria!
Following a press conference this morning, the BC Lions, CFL, and the City of Victoria announced an exciting next step in growing the game across Canada: Touchdown Pacific.
According to a release, Touchdown Pacific will bring the BC Lions to our very own Royal Athletic Park on August 31st 2024 to play against the Ottawa Redblacks as part of OK Tire Labour Day Weekend.
In order to welcome as many guests as possible, the stadium will be expanded to fit around 10,000 to 14,000 people—which includes standing room.
“This is a special day for Canadian football,” said CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie.
“Our great game is for all Canadians – it brings us together and it unites us as a country. The Touchdown Series is about opening our game to new fans and new communities, and showing them that the CFL is their league, too.”
Touchdown Pacific is said to be the latest installment in the Touchdown Series, following five successful Touchdown Atlantic events that celebrated Canadian football and deepened its imprint throughout the East Coast.
They hope to get as many Canadians involved in this great game as possible, coast to coast!
“From the cheers of the crowd and the impact in the community, to the fun, fast and entertaining action on the field – we can’t wait to deliver the full CFL experience to everyone in Victoria!” said Ambrosie.
This will be the Touchdown Series’ first foray into the West Coast and will serve as another milestone for Canadian football in British Columbia.
Additional details including ticketing information, associated community events and festivities will be announced at a later date, so stay tuned!
