‘Friendly, comfortable and safe’: Victoria named best city for eco family escape

Share

Victoria has been crowned with another award!

Our great city has earned a prestigious accolade as the prime destination for eco-conscious family getaways in North America,

Good Housekeeping, a renowned American and British lifestyle magazine, recently named Victoria as the ultimate city for an “eco family escape,” citing its abundance of green spaces, commitment to eco-tourism, and a flourishing array of sustainable initiatives.

One of the standout features applauded by the magazine was Victoria’s pioneering efforts in hosting carbon-neutral whale-watching tours, allowing travelers to marvel at marine wildlife while leaving behind minimal environmental footprint.

Moreover, Victoria’s landscape is adorned with zero-waste shops. These eco-friendly establishments provide visitors with the opportunity to support local businesses while contributing to a greener, more sustainable planet.

Beyond its eco-initiatives, Victoria boasts an extensive range of outdoor activities, catering to every adventurer’s desires.

The magazine curated its roster of distinctive cities to visit by collating insights from travel agents, editors specializing in travel, product analysts, and a team of over 100 “travel testers.”

These testers journeyed through various cities, providing firsthand perspectives, as shared by Destination Greater Victoria (DGV) in a media release.

“Receiving this prestigious award is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our entire team,” said Paul Nursey, CEO, Destination Greater Victoria (DGV).

“I would like to extend our thanks to MMGY/NJF, our travel, tourism, and hospitality PR agency, for making us aware of this opportunity.”

“This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without their hard work and
creativity. We’re excited to continue sharing our award-winning experiences with families and travellers from around the world,” added Nursey.

DGV created an itinerary for the travel tester, which highlighted spots ranging from Victoria to the Malahat to the Saanich Peninsula.

The journey highlighted accommodations, restaurants and eateries, attractions, and natural spaces in Greater Victoria suitable for the whole family.

“The whole trip was fabulous,” said the Victoria-based tester.

“The Butchart Gardens are some of the most spectacular I’ve ever seen, including in Europe. They’re stroller- and pet-friendly and wheelchair-accessible. Children especially loved the carousel!”

She added that the overall vibe of Victoria was “upbeat, friendly, comfortable and safe.”
