We’re off to see the wizard!
Watch as L. Frank Baum’s classic novel comes to life in VOS Musical Theatre’s live musical adaptation of The Wizard of Oz.
This magical production will take place on stage at McPherson Playhouse over six performances between Friday, November 24th and Sunday, December 3rd.
Dan Comeau, the general manager for VOS said that not only will this refreshed classic contain a harmonious mix of experienced theatre veterans and fresh faces, they also found two local dogs to play Toto!
“We blocked the show without Toto initially, our Dorothy was just carrying around a five pound bag of rice just to see what it would feel like for her to carry one just in case,” he told Victoria Buzz.
“Once we had our first run through with Yoshi, that’s the dog’s name, him and Dorothy became really great friends right away.”
Comeau said the search for Toto began and ended a lot faster than they all anticipated. In a string of ticket ads, they noted their lookout for a Toto and to contact them if anyone knew of a dog that would fit.
Within a few days, someone reached out and had two similar looking dogs—they went from having no dog to a star plus an understudy!
So, audiences can anticipate a full cast, including over 20 kids joining the main cast to play the munchkins.
“They are absolutely adorable…and they’ve been doing such a fantastic job.”
In addition to the actors, around 150 people go into a production of this size and it’s all to ensure they’re bringing their crowds the best possible theatrical experience.
“Everyone is really excited…the energy in the [rehearsal] room has been electric, so I’m feeling confident that when people see the show they’ll be blown away by the talent,” Comeau said.
“There are a couple of surprises but it all stays true to the story that people know and love.”
Ticket prices vary depending on seat selection, but they start at around $66 and can be purchased here.
