Victoria calls all musicians to apply to official roster of approved artists for next two years

Share

The City of Victoria is calling on all musicians and bands to apply to their updated pre-qualified roster of local artists for 2024 and 2025.

This roster is the first place many promoters and event producers will look when booking entertainment at their events.

As long as applicants are based in the Capital Region, which includes the Gulf Islands, they are eligible to be added to the new roster.

“Those selected for the rosters will have the opportunity to participate in concerts and activities at outdoor spaces such as City parks, the Cameron Bandshell, Centennial Square as well as pop-up locations at Fisherman’s Wharf, Government Street, Broad Street, Songhees Park Plaza, Fort Common and Ship Point,” said a City spokesperson in a media release.

“Musicians selected for the roster will reflect the diversity of Victoria, both in the genres performed and the musicians performing.”

In 2023, the musicians who were on the roster got the opportunity to play events such as the Dragon Boat Festival, the Village Block Party, the Eventide Concert Series in Centennial Square and more.

They were also the first considered for an all Victoria, locally curated playlist which was made by CFUV in collaboration with the City.

The City says applicants will be assessed based on their artistic merit, quality of music and how they engage with the community.

A panel of local music professionals will be the judges of who is added to the roster.

In addition to seeking musicians and bands, the City is seeking new community programmers who want to put on new events throughout Victoria.

These programmer’s applications will be assessed on the quality and creativity of their proposed activities.

Accessibility to the public and the applicant’s track record of operating successful events will be factors in the success of their submissions.

Programmer applications will be reviewed by City staff.

There will be an online information session held on Wednesday, November 22nd from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

In this information session, City staff will be able to answer any and all questions that musicians and programmers may have.

Roster applications are due by December 17th and successful musicians and programmers will be contacted in February of next year.

Applications and additional information can be found online, here.
