Wandering alpaca highly entertained as he took a sneaky evening stroll through Nanaimo

We all need a little adventure sometimes!

Nanaimo RCMP shared the story of Chewy, the wandering 3-year-old alpaca, and his sneaky evening stroll that left his family quite worried.

On Tuesday, November 7th, Chewy decided that he was bored at home and went for a walk around his neighborhood before getting lost.

His adventure began at 2 a.m. in the area of South Wellington, just south of Nanaimo.

Officers were called and told that Chewy would be heading for the highway, so they quickly responded and went to look for him there.

Sure enough, Chewy was on Highway #1 and was highly entertained as he checked out the lights and listened to the cars pass—he reportedly looked quite pleased with himself.

While it may have been fun for him, there was much concern for his safety and well-being.

Police used their vehicles to gently guide him along and managed to convince Chewy that home was a better place for him so late in the evening.

After some corralling, Chewy was back on his property and reunited with his worried but grateful owner at around 3 a.m.

His owner thinks that Chewy may have been frightened by something, and simply jumped the fence that surrounds their property.

“All in all, with a little creativity, the incident was successfully dealt with and the officers now have a good story to share with their work mates,” said Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
