23-year-old Saanich man arrested after $5,000 smash and grab at Uptown

One man was arrested after a smash and grab at Uptown Shopping Centre early Sunday.

In the early hours of December 17th, Uptown security notified the police upon witnessing a man shattering the front bay window of Urban Trail with a rock.

The suspect entered the business, grabbed items from inside, and then flee
the area on foot.

Promptly responding to the call, Saanich Police cordoned off the vicinity where the suspect was last sighted by Uptown security.

“During the search, a police officer spotted the male hiding in the bushes near the Galloping Goose Trail by Ravine Way,” stated Sgt. Damian Kowalewich.

“He was taken into custody with the assistance of SPD officers who
happened to be conducting an Impaired Driving Counterattack nearby.”

Upon investigation, police recovered merchandise valued at over $5,000 from the store.

The involvement of the Forensic Identification Section further bolstered efforts to secure crucial evidence in the case.

23-year-old Devin Clayton faces charges of break and enter under and is slated to appear in court in the coming days.
