BC Legislature’s sad-looking Christmas tree goes viral for all the wrong reasons

Share

While most people deck the halls, Victoria’s BC Legislature found itself decked in confusion with a Christmas tree that sparked a viral storm.

Forget jingle bells; this tree brought a chorus of “WTF is that?” to social media.

Global BC Legislative Reporter Richard Zussman planted the seed of curiosity by sharing a picture of a tree that seemed more melancholic than merry. This tree looked like it lost its caroling choir and found itself singing the blues instead.

The tree’s arrival stirred up more attention than a cat video marathon.

With over 80,000 views and an avalanche of reactions on Zussman’s post, this tree became the star of the show, stealing Santa’s spotlight faster than you can say, “Ho, ho, hold up, what’s wrong with that tree?”

In the festive spirit of online commentary, reactions ranged from nostalgic nods to Charlie Brown’s downtrodden tree to politically charged jabs faster than Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve.

“Paging Charlie Brown,” one user chimed in, conjuring up memories of that iconic droopy tree in the animated special. It seems this sad tree found its kindred spirit in the world of pop culture.

But wait, there’s more!

Some posters couldn’t resist turning this into a political ornament.

“That’s an NDP tree alright — sparse and no doubt costly,” one user quipped.

In a move that would make the Grinch proud, another user blamed a public figure, claiming, “Eby ruined Christmas.”

Who knew a sad tree could carry such heavy accusations?

In a X post, the BC Legislature gave a shoutout to the Fleming family and the Saanichton Christmas Tree Farm for delivering trees for over half-century! This year’s star attraction is a towering 28-foot Western white pine.
