Great news for the neighbourhood parents and children!

Sidney has approved an accessible playground design in Brethour Park for multiple age groups.

On Monday, December 18th, an official meeting was held, where council poured over several design options and feedback from the Saanich Peninsula Accessibility Committee.

Sidney said after some careful consideration, a final decision was made.

The selected option, set to be built in Brethour Park, will include a play structure for children ages 5 to 12-years-old, as well as a play structure for toddlers and pre-school children ages just over a year old to 5-years-old.

The playground will also sport a number of features for children and caregivers with physical disabilities such as a rubberized surface, friendship swing, and a We-Go-Round.

According to a media release, the We-Go-Round will be the first inclusive merry-go-round of its kind on the Saanich Peninsula.

Sidney Council estimates that the cost of the playground will be roughly $285,491.

It’s expected to be completed and open to the public by early summer 2024.
