Tragedy struck on Saturday morning as a single-vehicle crash claimed the lives of two individuals near Nanaimo Lakes.
The incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. along Nanaimo River Road adjacent to the Nanaimo Lakes Deadwood campground.
Authorities, including members of the Nanaimo RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, and Nanaimo Fire Rescue, responded to the crash.
Despite the rapid deployment of emergency personnel, the BC Coroner Service declared the two individuals deceased at the site of the collision.
The BC Coroner Service has taken charge of the investigation after it was determined no suspicion of foul play exists.
However, the RCMP Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic crash.
Throughout Saturday, traffic disruptions persisted in the vicinity as investigators probed the area.
The identities of the deceased were not released.
