The festivities reached a crescendo with sold-out indoor events, showcasing the city’s ardent love for the game.

The Victoria Conference Centre hosted the star-studded Hockey Day gala on Thursday night, drawing over 800 enthusiasts.

The excitement continued on Friday with the NHL Alumni and Celebrity Game at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre, where 7,006 fans witnessed a thrilling display of skill and camaraderie—even our very own, Seanna Wainman co-hosted the team McDonald bench, while Elliote Friedman and Kelly Hrudey manned the Team Tucker bench.

And that’s just a few of the events that took place throughout southern Vancouver Island.

All these events lead up to the big day as the nation witnesses the beautiful city we live in for Hockey Day in Canada.

On Saturday, January 20th, the Inner Harbour causeway became a focal point as thousands gathered to catch a glimpse of the iconic Stanley Cup and hockey legends.

The spectacle unfolded with members of the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations paddling into Ship Point, accompanied by former Vancouver Canucks and Stanley Cup champion Geoff Courtnall.

Victoria’s deep-rooted connection to hockey took center stage during the Hockey Day in Canada broadcast, placing Vancouver Island on a national platform.

The broadcast highlighted the island’s rich hockey culture and its significant contributions to the sport—and if you haven’t watched the opening from Sportnets broadcast that kicked off the day, make sure you do!

Ship Point emerged as the heart of the celebration on Saturday, drawing thousands of spectators. The full Hockey Night in Canada crew broadcasted live from atop Milestones Restaurant, providing captivating views of the Inner Harbour, BC legislature, and the iconic Empress to viewers nationwide.

Host MacLean, adorned in a replica jersey and cap of the 1925 Stanley Cup champion Victoria Cougars, added a historical touch to the national broadcast.

To add to the festivities, down the street at the Barn on Blanshard, the Victoria Royals kicked off an earlier than usual game against the Kamloops Blazers, taking the game 7-2 in front of a crowd of over 6,100!

The Royals are back in action again today with another early after start if you’re looking to keep the hockey festivities going!

Hockey Day in Canada not only captivated Victoria but also showcased the city’s vibrant hockey community and its profound impact on the national stage.

As the snowflakes added to the festive atmosphere, the week-long celebration left an indelible mark on all who participated, reinforcing hockey’s significance in the cultural fabric of British Columbia.
