25-year-old driver caught speeding through Oak Bay with no insurance

A 25-year-old driver is facing nearly a thousands of dollars in fines after being caught speeding through Oak Bay without insurance last week.

On January 15th, Oak Bay Police were conducting speed enforcement on Beach Drive near Newport Avenue, where a posted speed limit of 40km/h is in effect.

Police observed a northbound vehicle exceeding the speed limit. An officer with a radar speed gun tracked the vehicle traveling at 87km/h.

The subsequent events unfolded as police officers observed a vehicle traveling at a speed exceeding the posted limit, leading to a series of enforcement actions.

A traffic stop was ensued which revealed the driver had also let their vehicle’s insurance lapse.

Consequently, the driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed, incurring a fine of $368. In addition, a charge for no insurance resulted in a second fine of $598.

The vehicle was towed and impounded for a week where the driver will also have to pay to have his car stored.
