A pickup truck driver failed to remain at the scene of a collision after hitting a parked car in Oak Bay, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.

On Sunday, January 14th just before 11 a.m., Oak Bay Police were on patrol around Beach Drive and Newport Avenue.

A resident flagged the officers down and reported that their parked and unoccupied vehicle had been struck by a pickup truck, which had quickly fled the scene after the collision.

Police were able to locate the truck, which had pulled down a side road a short distance away—it was also discovered that the truck was missing a wheel.

The driver was identified as a 34-year-old man, who made no effort to stop at the scene of the collision.

He was driving a vehicle without insurance (it had expired two years prior) as well as incorrect license plates.

Police issued three violation tickets with fines reaching just over $900, and he additionally received a Notice and Order for the vehicle to be removed from the highway until it receives a vehicle inspection, proper insurance, and license plates.

The incorrect plates were seized.

The damage done to each vehicle was estimated to be over $10,000.
