Soup’s on, Victoria—making a difference, one bowl at a time!
The Soroptimist International of Victoria Westshore (SIVW), is proud to announce their upcoming ‘Soup’s On!’ event, an Empty Bowls style gathering aimed at creating awareness of hunger and food waste in the CRD.
The SIVW is a part of a global volunteer service for women with nearly 66,000 members across the world!
The event will take place at Royal Bay Secondary Atrium on Saturday, February 10th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Not only is this a unique fundraising event that invites the community together, the unlimited soup available will also be prepared by some of Victoria’s finest chefs ready to showcase their talent!
This includes Jonathan Bull of Bull Son’s Delicatessen, Thomas Yesdresyski from the Sooke Shelter Society, and Sam Benedetto from the Royal Colwood Golf Club.
“Many people across the Greater Victoria Region continue to struggle with food security during these tough economic times,” said Suzanne Mandy, President of SIVW.
“Through the ‘Soups On!’ event, we aim to unite the community to provide the much-needed support and awareness of regional food security while raising money for our programs that support women and girls in our region.”
In addition to the delightful culinary experience, attendees will have the opportunity to select a unique ceramic bowl crafted by local BC artisans to take home.
They hope for it to serve as a reminder of the collective effort to combat food insecurity and waste in our community.
The event will also feature a silent auction, with all proceeds contributing to SIVW’s general fundraising initiatives.
To begin the ‘giving back’ grain, The Food Share Network donated rescued foods to the event, ensuring it’s both sustainable and impactful.
Tickets will be $40 for adults and $20 for children under 12—every ticket will include all-you-can-eat soup, bread, and a handmade ceramic bowl of your choice to take home with you.
