For regular transit users, BC Transit has provided some tips for ensuring a timely bus trip that is easy on the rider and the driver alike.

They recommend that if a stop is located on a hill, try to get to the nearest stop on more level ground, wear reflectors if possible as visibility may be low, step back from the curb as the bus nears the stop, wear waterproof footwear with good traction, as bus floors will be wet and lastly, tread carefully when boarding or departing a bus.

It also never hurts to ensure you thank the bus driver, given the added stress they are working under in these conditions.

BC Transit also says that handyDART bus services being more difficult to provide in these weather conditions, they ask their commuters to only use handyDART if absolutely necessary; for medical appointments and other essential trips. Delays are to be expected.

Otherwise scheduled appointments with handyDART have been cancelled and those customers impacted have been informed, according to BC Transit.

“As conditions continue to change, BC Transit will be updating customers as quickly as possible of service impacts,” said a Victoria Regional Transit spokesperson.

“BC Transit appreciates the patience of our customers during this time.”
