Snow leads to school closures for some Greater Victoria students on Wednesday

Share

It’s a snow day for some students on Vancouver Island Wednesday.

As snowfall has blanketed most of Victoria and the surrounding areas, the result is slippery road conditions and some cancellations of services and school openings.

Closed for the day:

  • All Saanich School District schools will closed.
  • Qualicum School District will be closed.
  • School District 79 Cowichan Valley schools are closed.
  • School District 64 on the Gulf Islands will be closed.
  • School District 68 in Nanaimo/Ladysmith will be closed.
  • School District 70 in Pacific Rim – Alberni Valley will be closed.
  • School District 71 in Comox Valley will be closed.

Both the Greater Victoria School District (SD61) and Sooke School District (SD62) confirmed schools will be open Wednesday.

In a statement, SD62 says its buses are not running.

“It is up to the parent/guardian to decide if they feel comfortable sending their child to school,” said the school district in a social media post. “We support and respect your decision.”

Camosun College and University of Victoria will be open.

For those travelling by BC Transit, make sure to check your bus route before heading out as the company announced some routes were being delayed.
