Hold on tight, Victoria, cold air could be on the way.

After a prolonged spell of warmer-than-usual weather, Victoria might soon witness a dramatic shift in temperatures, including a snowfall on the horizon.

According to the Weather Network, forecast indicates an approaching arctic front set to sweep in next week, ushering in chilly temperatures and a chance of flurries.

“Believe it or not, winter has not been cancelled, despite what transpired in December across Canada,” warned the weather agency. “January will look considerably different by comparison as winter finally gets a tighter grip on the country.”

While it’s not expected to be a prolonged event, Environment Canada suggests a 30% chance of flurries this Sunday in Victoria.

However, this snowfall is anticipated to be followed by scattered rainfall. As temperatures plummet, the potential for more snowfall increases steadily through the upcoming week.

“The jet stream pattern is already undergoing significant changes, despite the continued strength of El Niño,” reported the Weather Network.

“As we move into the second week of January, this Arctic air mass will extend its reach southward, encompassing Western and Central Canada, as well as parts of the United States.”

However, residents of Vancouver Island shouldn’t expect temperatures far below the average for this time of year.

The prospect of cold weather and snow is a welcome sight for local ski hills, which have been grappling with below-average snowfall.

“Snow has made a comeback, and we anticipate heavier snowfall later this week, especially on Friday. Additionally, with cooler temperatures returning, our team will be actively making snow whenever conditions allow. Drivers are urged to exercise caution while traveling to and from the mountain, ensuring their vehicles are prepared for varying winter conditions,” advised Mount Washington in their daily update on January 3rd.
