Drug impaired shoplifter at Langford Walmart caught driving away with stolen merchandise

West Shore RCMP caught a drug impaired shoplifter driving away with over $1000 of stolen merchandise from the Walmart in Langford.

On February 13th at around 7:40 p.m., officers received a report of a theft that had just taken place at Walmart located at 860 Langford Parkway in Langford.

The witness told police that they saw the man leave the store with a cart full of household items without paying—the items included an air fryer, coffee maker, vacuum, cookware and more.

The suspect allegedly loaded his vehicle up with the stolen goods and drove away and the witness was able to phone right away and provide RCMP with a detailed description of the suspect and the vehicle.

Officers who were patrolling the area were able to locate the vehicle within minutes of the call and the 39-year-old suspect, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was arrested for theft under $5000 and all of the stolen product was recovered.

During the interaction with the suspect, police observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and the suspect was reportedly displaying signs of drug impairment.

The suspect failed a Standard Field Sobriety Test and was issued a 24-hour prohibition from driving under the Motor Vehicle Act, his vehicle was also towed.

The suspect was released from custody with an upcoming court date regarding the theft.
