A mother of three tragically died last week and now her family has launched a GoFundMe page trying to gain some financial support while they grieve.
At around 8 p.m. on Friday, February 2nd, a woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle on the Pat Bay Highway when she tried to cross the roadway.
That woman was 29-year-old mother of three children, Lena Henry.
According to Saanich Police, the incident did not occur near a crosswalk and the driver who struck and killed Henry had not been speeding nor had alcohol been involved.
The incident reportedly occurred after Henry had exited a BC Transit bus that operates along the Pat Bay Highway.

Immediately following Henry’s death, her cousin, Hilda Smith turned to social media to express herself.
In a post on a public Facebook group, she claimed the BC Transit bus driver had kicked Henry off the bus while intoxicated and reiterated those claims to Victoria Buzz after taking down her initial post.
According to BC Transit, that is not what occurred.
“BC Transit can confirm that the victim was not asked to depart the bus by the driver,” said a spokesperson for the Victoria Regional Transit System.
“This is a tragic incident and we are supporting the police investigation into this matter. As this is an active investigation, any further requests for information should be directed to the police.”
They included that their thoughts and condolences are with Henry’s family and friends.
Victoria Buzz reached out to Saanich Police and Sidney/North Saanich RCMP who are involved in the investigation to confirm or deny these accusations, but have not received a response as of this publication.
Smith just launched the GoFundMe page and is hoping people can find it in their hearts to donate to her cousin. Any money garnered by the fundraiser she says will go directly to helping support Henry’s children.
“I’m fundraising for my cousin’s kids as they recently lost their mother due to a tragic event that recently happened and now it left her 3 children with no mom,” Smith Wrote in the fundraiser description.
“I would really like to help them as much as I can.”
