In a successful operation aided by surveillance technology, Oceanside RCMP managed to track down and recover a stolen travel trailer from the Horne Lake area.

The recovery was made possible thanks to footage captured by a game camera, which showed a suspect’s vehicle leaving the scene.

According to police reports, the owner of the travel trailer alerted authorities on Saturday, providing essential details such as the make, model, description, and license plate number.

However, it was the footage obtained from the game camera that proved instrumental in locating the stolen property.

Images extracted from the surveillance footage were sent to Island RCMP detachments, leading to a the discovery by a vigilant RCMP officer in Nanaimo on Tuesday.

Acting on this information, Oceanside RCMP promptly executed a search warrant at a Nanaimo residence, where they successfully located the missing travel trailer.

Corporal Mike Kane of the Oceanside RCMP General Investigation Section emphasized the significance of surveillance technology in identifying crime suspects.

“The game camera footage allowed police to quickly identify a suspect vehicle and to provide that image to neighbouring Detachments in real time,” said Kane.

While no charges have been filed thus far, the investigation remains ongoing.

Nevertheless, the owner of the recovered travel trailer expressed gratitude for its retrieval.
