A 19-year-old man has been found alive after going missing on Valentine’s Day.

On Friday, a ground search was launched for Owen Weld, who was reported missing on Wednesday, February 14th.

He was last seen at around 4 p.m. at the A&W in Lake Cowichan and was driving his black Toyota Rav4.

On Saturday, Cowichan Search and Rescue (SAR) reported that two aircraft and road teams “covered a vast expanse of gravel on the logging roads in Lake Cowichan and beyond,” in a Facebook post.

They also mentioned that on Sunday, SAR will continue with the assistance of mutual aid SAR groups to complete tasks that were not finished before nightfall.

On Sunday, afternoon, family members confirmed Weld had been located alive. A family member told Victoria Buzz that he was found by campers at a washout—the location not revealed.

When he regained consciousness, Weld believed it was still Thursday. He was then transported to Cowichan District Hospital. His full condition is unknown.

“The family and support team are deeply appreciative of all of you, Cowichan Search & Rescue, and the RCMP. They have been sending in messages that will be communicated when compiled,” the family posted in a Facebook paged dedicated to the search.

“Tomorrow, we will share accurately and thoughtfully.”

More to come.
