Keepers of book lore, TV series obsessors, comic book collectors, and everyone in between—this is an event you won’t want to miss.
Langford announces its inaugural Island FanCon event coming to City Centre Park from April 13th to 14th, and they’ve dropped some pretty huge news in anticipation of its arrival.
Fans of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones are in for a giant treat, as Icelandic professional strongman and actor Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson is scheduled to appear on both days of the convention for photos, autographs and a panel during the weekend!
Best known for his role as Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane on the beloved fantasy series Game of Thrones, Bjornsson shared screen time with names like Pedro Pascal and Lena Heady.
The series was his first major actor role and led to screen time in subsequent projects with stars such as Mike Tyson and Alexander Skarsgård.
“We wanted our first guest announcement to be big,” said founder of Island FanCon, Lonnie Eckardt.
“It doesn’t get much bigger than Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson.”
Björnsson’s path to film started with some incredibly impressive physical feats as a professional strongman—holding the 2018 World’s Strongest Man, the 2018 and 2019 Arnold Strongman Classic title, as well as multiple world records that have coined him as “the strongest man to ever live.”
That’s not all…in 2015, Björnsson beat a 1000-year-old record set by Orm Storolfsson at the World’s Strongest Viking competition in Norway, where he carried a 33 foot long log that weighed 1,430 pounds for five steps.
It makes sense that the event sponsor, Viking Sales, handpicked Björnsson to make this ultimate appearance in Langford—he’s truly legendary.
This event will be modeled after Northern FanCon based out of Prince George, and in addition to Björnsson’s presence, Island FanCon is promising an epic celebration of pop culture and an unforgettable experience for fans of all ages.
Attractions include hundreds of eye-boggling costumes for cosplay, a bracketed tournament of gaming, artist alley, heaps of merch, and much more!
