Everyone is invited to participate in this collective action towards hope!

Victoria Shows Love, a group of local people working to bring a refugee family to Victoria, is hosting a benefit concert and silent auction to continue raising funds.

The event will be held on Sunday, March 3rd at the St. Philip Anglican Church from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will feature local musicians and artists that have donated their pieces to the auction.

According to a media release, Victoria Shows Love has raised $35,000 to support the Syrian Refugee family’s journey to join their sister in Victoria.

They hope to raise another $30,000 to support the family for their first year in Victoria.

Local musicians include folk duo, West My Friend, who will be performing alongside local Syrian musicians Habbous and Jordie, as well as Sari Alesh, an extraordinary violinist also from Syria.

Additionally, the voices of the Island Song choir will join in on the fun and share in the joy of their music!

Victoria Shows Love has confirmed that the visa applications have now been submitted for the family after a lot of obstacles and detailed paperwork.

The process required a lot of heavy revisiting of traumatic experiences for the Syrian family, as they had to detail why they’re seeking refuge in Lebanon.

Their journey is not over yet, as it may take three years before they can arrive in Canada, but happy tears of joy were evoked at the news of the submitted visa application.

Victoria Shows Love and the sister of the Syrian family in Victoria has provided a lifeline of hope, and they hope to keep that going with the community’s continued support.

Tickets to this event are $25 and can be purchased here.
