A man remains in hospital following a stabbing incident in Nanaimo over the weekend.

On the evening of Sunday, February 4th, at around 8:30 p.m., Nanaimo RCMP, firefighters and paramedics responded to the stabbing which reportedly happened in the vicinity of the Port Place Mall’s casino.

Police say that the victim, a 22-year-old man, approached a back door of the Casino Nanaimo and asked two employees for assistance after he had been stabbed.

The employees gave him first aid treatment and alerted the authorities.

From there, the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries that police say are non-life threatening.

Investigators were then able to acquire some grainy CCTV footage of the victim walking through a parking lot with some potential suspects or witnesses standing in a group nearby.

However, according to police, the footage was too grainy to provide any clear details.

“At this time, the investigation is in the very early stages,” said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

“Over the next several days, police will be canvassing the downtown core for CCTV footage and looking for any potential witnesses.”

Anyone who has information on this incident is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.
