You can bungy jump naked at Nanaimo’s WildPlay for a good cause this March

Leave your fears with your discarded clothing for an unabashed jump for mental health!

In less than a month, hundreds of people are expected to simultaneously share their commitment to mental health and wellness by taking a 150-foot plunge during the 18th annual Naked Bungy Jump for Mental Health.

Yes, you read that right—rock your birthday suit, if you will, while you jump in support of the Mental Health Recovery Partners South Island (MHRP SI)!

WildPlay Nanaimo will be hosting the event on Saturday, March 2nd and Sunday, March 3rd, made possible by a long-standing anonymous donor who will be doubling every dollar donated and those who make the brave plunge.

Since its inaugural event in 2006, the Naked Bungy has raised over $500,000 for vital mental services and programs for recovering individuals and their families and loved ones.

This year, two iconic celebrity jumpers will be bringing their star power to the cause: Vivian Vanderpuss, who was named Miss Congeniality of Canada’s Drag Race on Season 3, and the award-winning musical artist Q.

“MHRP SI is a place of healing, community and belonging. The Naked Bungy event is held with the same values and we are incredibly honoured to have this support for our continued work,” said Janine Theobald, MHRP SI’s executive director and a jumper herself.

“People jump to honour milestones on their own recovery journeys and some for their loved ones. Whatever the reason, it’s a fun and memorable way to rally together and bring awareness to an at times difficult topic and experience for people and their families.”

Additionally, WildPlay has invited Dave Dodaly, recognized as an Elder and member of Snuneymuxw First Nation, to properly open the event on Saturday.

According to a media release, last year’s Naked Bungy raised over $84,000 for MHRP SI’s life-saving programs for individuals living with mental illness as well as their families and loved ones.

Mental illness impacts 1 in 5 people, and many don’t ever receive adequate support. This fundraiser goes towards the continued services provided by MHRP SI so they can help people navigate their recovery journeys and thrive.

To accommodate the bare jumpers, WildPlay will open early to allow for event participants and spectators to fully immerse themselves in the spirit of the occasion.

Spectators must donate a minimum of $15, so you can come and watch your friends jump as long as you’re helping support the cause!

You have to be 18-years-old or older to participate and you can register your spot here, which requires a $55 deposit. Participants who raise $200 or more jump for free and your $55 deposit will be refunded.

You can donate directly to the fundraiser or your favourite jumper on the Canada Helps website.

Embrace the chilly morning air and happy jumping!
