30-year-old man arrested with loaded semi-automatic rifle during traffic stop in Saanich

A traffic stop in Saanich led to the arrest of an individual found with a loaded semi-automatic rifle and other gun-related items.

On Saturday, March 2nd, an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 2300 block of Irma Street after observing suspicious behavior by the passenger of a vehicle. 

Police reportedly observed a shell casing on the dashboard of the vehicle, and the passenger was arrested, followed by a subsequent search of the vehicle. 

During the search, officers located a backpack that contained the following items:

  • GSG-15 .22 LR Rifle with loaded magazine
  • Additional loaded magazine
  • 200+ rounds of loose ammunition
  • Two pairs of brass knuckles

Saanich Police identified the suspect as a 30-year-old Greater Victoria resident, Joshua Logan.

He is being charged with a total of eight counts, including transporting a firearm contrary to regulation, weapon possession, possession of a loaded firearm without authorization or licence and more. 

“This was really impressive work by our patrol officers and an example of our diligence in keeping the community safe,” said Inspector Damian Kowalewich. 

“There is no practical need for these weapons to be in our community and we are glad to have removed them from the public space.”
