A cyclist sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle while riding in View Royal over the weekend

On Sunday, March 24th, at around 4:45 p.m., Westshore RCMP responded to a report of a collision involving a single vehicle and a cyclist at the intersection of Island Highway and Burnside Road West in View Royal.

“West Shore RCMP Frontline and Traffic Unit officers attended the scene and learned a sedan had struck a cyclist at this location,” media relations officer Cpl. Nancy Saggar.

The cyclist, identified as a 55-year-old man, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 21-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with the police investigation, said Saggar.

Burnside Road West eastbound lanes were closed for several hours for investigation.

Police have ruled out drug and alcohol impairment as a possible cause.

Saggar stated that further details will be released later in the week as more information becomes available.
