While the cause of an early morning fire at a gas station in Victoria remains unknown, it has been deemed non-suspicious.
At around 3:30 a.m., on March 27th, emergency crews were called to the scene of a fire at the Petro-Canada station at the corner of Douglas and Government streets.
While the fire was quickly contained by the Victoria Fire Department, the exterior of a gas pump suffered the significant damage.
According to a Facebook post by Victoria Firefighters IAFF Local 730, multiple 911 calls were received for this incident, and that it was, in fact, a gas pump that was fully involved and extending into the ceiling of the gas station.
Engine 3, spearheading the operation, was quick to assess the situation upon turning onto Douglas Street from Bay Street, according the post.
Upon arrival, fire fighters were met with billowing smoke emanating from the Petro-Canada station prompted immediate action.
A gas pump was engulfed in flames, with the fire having spread to the roof of the structure.
While the fire caused substantial damage to the roof and scorched one of the pumps, the structure itself was spared from significant harm.
The fire has been ruled as non-suspicious but remains under investigation. There are reports the fire was caused by faulty electrical.
The Petro-Canada station remains closed, with no definitive timeline available for its reopening.
There were no injuries caused by the fire.
