Some changes will be coming to the Douglas-Uptown corridor after the BC government purchased land in the area intended to be the future site of a transit hub.

Currently, the site at 3657 Harriet Road is occupied by a satellite Budget Car Rental location.

Both BC Transit and the Province told Victoria Buzz that the site had been acquired on Monday, March 11th.

“BC Transit can confirm that our organization holds properties in Saanich that were acquired to support the future development of a transit exchange in the Uptown-Douglas area,” BC Transit said in a statement.

They say a transit exchange at this location is a key part of the transit vision outlined by both the City of Victoria and BC government to support the growth of transit in the region.

According to BC Transit, the improvements this project will help achieve improved connectivity with the expanding RapidBus network, increased future transit service levels, faster transit service and interconnectivity with the Galloping Goose and Victoria’s cycling network.

The Province told Victoria Buzz the property cost $7.5 million.

“This proposed project is in the very early stages of development,” said the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

“We look forward to sharing more information publicly when we’re able.”
