West Shore RCMP pulled over a vehicle going 75 km/h over the posted speed limit, resulting in a list of penalties and fines.
On Monday, March 4th just after midnight, officers were patrolling the Trans Canada Highway near Helmcken Road in View Royal, when a vehicle passed at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle was a 2024 Hyundai Elantra and police indicated the vehicle was traveling at 165 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.
That’s 75 km/h over the posted speed limit.
Officers pulled the vehicle over and the driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speeding and for failure to produce a driver’s licence.
In addition, the vehicle was towed and will be impounded for 7 days.
The driver didn’t have a physical copy of their licence with them and instead attempted to present a photograph of it—which is not accepted by law.
“In total, this driver is facing over $1000 in fines,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP media relations officer.
